Saying Farewell to Our Beloved Home: Reflections on 16 Years of Family Memories

There comes a moment in life when we find ourselves standing at a crossroads, ready to embark on a new chapter filled with endless possibilities. For us, that moment arrived when we made the bittersweet decision to sell the house we called home for 16 remarkable years. This was the place where our family flourished, where love and laughter echoed through every room, and where cherished memories were etched into the very walls. It was within these four walls that our journey as a family truly began.

Kevin, having moved into this house three years before we met and married, welcomed not just me, but my two feisty boys as well - making us a melting pot of seven total. Our youngest was just a wide-eyed 4-year-old when we first married, while our oldest, our daughter, was a confident and caring 14-year-old. Our newly formed family filled these rooms with their energy, dreams, and aspirations.

As time marched on, our children grew into exceptional individuals, each forging their own path in the world. Now, they stand on the precipice of adulthood, confidently navigating their careers or pursuing higher education. Our family has expanded too, with the arrival of our precious granddaughter, who adds a touch of magic and joy to our lives.

But as our children began to build their own nests, the house that once brimmed with laughter and the pitter-patter of little feet suddenly felt too vast for just me and Kevin. We found ourselves pondering our next chapter, realizing that we no longer desired the commitment and upkeep that came with a large home. And so, with a sense of adventure in our hearts and a touch of uncertainty, we decided not to decide, at least not yet.

We traded the spaciousness of our family home for the coziness of a 3-bedroom apartment, embracing the notion of living small and exploring the possibilities that lie ahead. Could we find contentment within these pared-down walls? How long would we choose this lifestyle? These questions, like the open road before us, remain unanswered for now.

In 2022, we took a leap of faith and purchased an RV—a symbol of our wanderlust and our desire to embrace a nomadic way of life. Our RV'ing journey started modestly, with a 2016 GulfBreeze bumper pull, which later gave way to a 5th wheel, the Grand Design Solitude, in 2018. For me, the RV was a prerequisite for extended travel—it was my way of ensuring comfortable accommodations and avoiding those infamous "discussions" while parking. To my fellow bumper pull and 5th wheel owners, you know exactly what I mean!

Since August 2022, we have been breaking in our 2018 Entegra Anthem, transforming it into our mobile oasis with workstations and all the "necessities" a city girl like me requires. Along this journey, we have discovered the secrets of comfortable on-the-road living, learning the little things that make a big difference. And before embarking on our 2.5-month adventure from Texas to Seattle, then over to Michigan and back home, Kevin dedicated his time to upgrading our connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted work capabilities. Stay tuned for our next post, where I'll delve into the impressive details of our connectivity setup and a few other modifications and repairs!

For now, we find ourselves at the first stop of our grand adventure, ready to rate the experience and all the remarkable sites we encounter. Join us as we embark on this inaugural post, where we'll share our thoughts, impressions, and recommendations from the road. Let the journey begin!

Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!
