Welcome to our exciting journey to Mackinac Island, Michigan, a place where time seems to stand still, and the charm of horse-drawn carriages and scenic beauty reigns supreme. Our adventure, while not a long-awaited dream come true, was a well-planned getaway filled with exploration, delicious food, and newfound freedom on two wheels. This is the story of our delightful stay at the Murray Hotel, conveniently located right on Main Street, and our indulgence in the island's famous fudge during Fudge Week.

KOA St. Ignace: A Perfect Start

Our journey to Mackinac Island began with anticipation as we made our way to KOA St. Ignace, a gem of a campground nestled among towering trees and just a stone's throw away from St. Ignace and the island itself. The KOA provided a cozy oasis with amenities ranging from mini-golf to cabins and laundry facilities. It was the ideal base camp for our island adventure, and we can't wait to return.

Kewadin Casino: A Gamble That Paid Off

A short drive from KOA St. Ignace led us to Kewadin Casino. The casino boasted a clean, inviting atmosphere with a variety of new games and dining options. We joined their Northern Rewards Club, which promised discounts, points, and exclusive invitations. Though luck wasn't entirely on our side in the casino, we walked out with a smile, considering it a win. The casino is a must-visit in the area, especially for those who enjoy some entertainment and a bit of gambling.

Mackinac Island: Where Time Stands Still

Mackinac Island is a picturesque escape, where cars are replaced by horse-drawn carriages and bicycles. After a transformative health journey that saw us each shed over 100 pounds, exploring the island was a breeze compared to our previous visit last year. Renting bicycles, we effortlessly circled the island's eight miles of beauty, taking in breathtaking views and iconic landmarks like the Grand Hotel, featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time." The island's charm and natural beauty left us speechless and wanting more.

The Murray Hotel: A Charming Retreat

Our stay at the Murray Hotel on Mackinac Island was the epitome of relaxation and convenience. Situated right on Main Street and a stone's throw away from the ferry dock, it was the perfect base for our island exploration. We spent hours on the hotel's front porch, rocking in comfortable chairs, and watching life pass us by—a true slice of island life. After a long day of adventure, we indulged in the hotel's heated pool, letting our tired muscles unwind.

Staying at the Murray Hotel also had its sweet perks. The hotel offered discounts on their in-house-made fudge, renowned as the creamiest on the island. Our visit coincided with Fudge Week, a tempting challenge for our diets. The allure of free fudge samples proved irresistible, and we couldn't resist indulging in the island's delectable treat.

The Carriage House: A Scenic Disappointment

While on the island, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at The Carriage House, a highly rated waterfront restaurant. The stunning views and the company of my love were exceptional, but the food was a letdown. We noticed a significant increase in prices from our previous visit, and unfortunately, all our dishes arrived cold. Despite the courteous staff's efforts to rectify the situation, it was a letdown that may prevent us from returning.

Patrick Doud's Irish Pub: A Welcoming Haven

Our trip wouldn't have been complete without a visit to Patrick Doud's Irish Pub. This charming establishment offered an extensive menu and an inviting atmosphere. From burgers to cold pints, the pub delivered on every front. It's a place we would return to without hesitation.

Our Mackinac Island adventure was a dream come true, filled with highs and indulgent moments, but the memories created will last a lifetime. From the tranquil beauty of the island to the excitement of Kewadin Casino and the delights of the Murray Hotel and Fudge Week, our trip was an unforgettable experience. If you're planning a trip to Mackinac Island, be sure to savor every moment and explore the hidden gems along the way.

Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!

Happy RVing!
