On our continued journey to Mackinac Island, we made a delightful stopover in Shawano, Wisconsin. Shawano is a town nestled amidst the natural beauty of Wisconsin, offering a range of attractions for travelers passing through. During our visit, we stayed at Pine Grove Campground, a quaint oasis that surprised us with its diverse amenities. But that's not all – we couldn't resist indulging our cravings for Mexican cuisine, leading us to El Tequila Shawano, a nice surprise in this small town. Join me as we recount our memorable experience in Shawano, WI.
Pine Grove Campground
As seasoned travelers, we've stayed in our fair share of campgrounds, but Pine Grove Campground in Shawano was a unique find. Situated along our route to Mackinac Island, this campground had something for everyone, much like many of the campgrounds we've frequented in the past. From mini golf and pools to serene lakes and numerous amenities, Pine Grove Campground impressed us right from the start. Oh, and one unexpected highlight that I can’t fail to mention was the charming petting zoo on-site - a goat was standing on his house to greet us!
While our pull-through site at the back of the campground was convenient for our big rig, it lacked the wow factor we'd hoped for. With only a concrete pad and no picnic tables or fire pits, it seemed rather basic. We also couldn't help but wonder how tricky it might be to navigate if more trailers were around, but we lucked out as we had the place to ourselves that evening.
One aspect that truly shines at Pine Grove Campground is its lush tree-lined surroundings, making it the perfect destination for a summer camping trip. If you prefer camping in the fall, it is also good to note that they have a Halloween Haunted House and hayrides! You can explore the expansive grounds with ease, golf carts are available for rent, ensuring you don't miss out on any of the activities or amenities. We can certainly envision this campground as a great summer getaway.
El Tequila Shawano
Our recurring fascination with Mexican cuisine led us to El Tequila in Shawano, where we couldn't resist trying yet another Mexican gem on our journey. El Tequila came highly recommended and had quite the reputation as one of the top choices in the area.
The moment we stepped inside El Tequila, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance. I decided to indulge in their incredible fajitas, which did not disappoint. The flavors were authentic, and the presentation was great. What truly stood out was the exceptional service; the staff was attentive, and our food arrived promptly.
Even before our main course, we couldn't resist sampling a few chips and salsa. The salsa had a delightful kick to it, and it was evident why people raved about this restaurant.
Conclusion
Our pit stop in Shawano, Wisconsin, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Pine Grove Campground provided a mix of amenities and the perfect setting for a summer camping adventure. Meanwhile, El Tequila Shawano satisfied our craving for Mexican cuisine, offering flavors that left an impression. As we continued our journey to Mackinac Island, we couldn't help but appreciate the unexpected gems that Shawano had to offer.
Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!
Happy RVing!
