Conveniently located just off Interstate 70, the Burlington RV Park provides easy access for travelers seeking a comfortable pit stop. The park offers spacious gravel sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp full hookups. Although it operates on a cash-only basis, the process is straightforward—simply place the payment in an envelope and drop it into the designated slot at the on-site building. Wi-Fi and cable TV are available, ensuring you stay connected during your stay. This is a no frills park with no on-site facilities such as a bathhouse, laundry room, or pool but they do provide a contact number if you require any assistance.

The Burlington RV Park is the ideal spot for a brief respite while passing through, even though it is not really a destination in itself.

Points of Interest

The Dish Room

A delightful culinary experience awaited us at The Dish Room restaurant. The entrance may be slightly deceptive, as the front-facing portion of the building is a private party banquet hall. However, the main entrance, located on the south side, features an inviting patio and vibrant colors that beckon diners inside.

Our server, Kate, proved to be knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent suggestions for our meal. To start, we savored the Dish Room Poppers — bacon-wrapped Anaheim peppers filled with Gouda cheddar and cream cheese, served with ranch and their special OG sauce. While we would have preferred the sauce on the side for dipping, the poppers were undeniably tasty. Accompanying our meal was a bottle of the 2019 vintage Greg Norman Pinot Noir, a $15 gem that received a solid 3.6 rating on Vivino.

For the next course, we delighted in the Black Goat salad—a bed of mixed greens topped with a blend of blackberry, balsamic, mixed berry, goat cheese, feta, and candied nuts. The flavors combined harmoniously, creating a truly unforgettable salad experience. Kevin opted for the Cajun Strip Loin, adorned with shrimp and lobster claw meat, cajun butter, and served with cheesy grits. Although the strip loin was slightly overcooked, the decadent toppings made up for it. Meanwhile, I relished the Mongolian Pork Ribs, smothered in a tantalizingly spicy Korean barbecue sauce. We couldn't resist sampling the sides, and the Brussel Sprout Hash and Sweet Corn Tamales surpassed our expectations. Leaving the restaurant fully satisfied, we only wished we had room for dessert.

Kit Carson County Carousel & Museum

During our visit to Burlington, we made a point to explore the Kit Carson County Carousel & Museum. Despite the sweltering heat, we marveled at the exquisite artistry of the carousel, which boasts an impressive history spanning over 118 years. The carousel retains its original painted horses and is powered by its original 10 hp General Electric motor—a testament to its longevity and preservation. Learning about the rich history surrounding the carousel was truly enlightening, and we were amazed to discover that it is number 6 of the 74 wooden carousels built by the Pittsburgh Toboggan Company. The Kit Carson County Carousel & Museum is a captivating destination that offers a glimpse into the past and showcases the town's commitment to preserving its heritage.

Side Note: No RV trip is complete without an unexpected repair. In our case, Shelly's recliner needed a bolt, leading us to the local Ace Hardware in Burlington. We were pleasantly surprised by their extensive selection of nuts, bolts, and more. To our amazement, when we approached the counter with just the bolt we needed, the kind gentleman assisting us generously offered it to us free of charge. Such acts of kindness leave a lasting impression, and we highly recommend the Ace Hardware in Burlington for all your hardware needs.

Burlington, Colorado may be a small town, but it offers a delightful range of experiences for travelers. Whether you're seeking an easy-access RV park like the Burlington RV Park, indulging in culinary delights at The Dish Room, or immersing yourself in the history of the Kit Carson County Carousel & Museum, this charming town has something for everyone. So, the next time you find yourself passing through Burlington, take a moment to explore its offerings—you won't be disappointed.
