A Stop in Gladstone, Michigan: Unplanned Adventures and Relaxing Escapes

As we continued our journey towards Mackinac Island, we made a stop in Gladstone, Michigan, without any particular expectations. However, our visit to Gladstone turned out to be a mix of spontaneous adventures and peaceful moments. That's the beauty of RV life, isn't it? So, let's take a look at our experiences in the charming town of Gladstone.

The Unplanned Mudflap Saga

When we arrived at the Pioneer Trail Campground and began the process of unhitching our Jeep, I couldn't help but notice the motorhome's mudflap. It had clearly been through quite an adventure, possibly dragged for who knows how many miles – it could've been two, it could've been fifty, your guess is as good as mine. Nevertheless, it now sported a distinctive angle, evidence of its rugged journey. Thankfully, it hadn't completely broken off and caused any damage, particularly to our Jeep. After carefully unhooking the remaining bolt, I successfully maneuvered the rig into its designated spot.

When available let me tell you about my go-to hardware store, Menards. I'm a big fan, and if you've ever shopped at Menards, you understand why. It's not that I don't appreciate my visits to Home Depot and Lowe's – they have their merits too. However, there's just something special about Menards that never fails to captivate me. It's like they have a knack for offering something for everyone.

During a swift visit to Menards, I managed to find all the essential components required for the reattachment of the mudflap to the back of our coach. I'm pleased to report that it now feels even more secure than it did previously. This is precisely why I continue to choose Menards – they consistently provide precisely what I need.

Pioneer Trail Campground: A Hidden Gem

With our motorhome's mudflap issue sorted, we were free to enjoy our stay at the Pioneer Trail Campground. Nestled along the picturesque Escanaba River, this campground offers spacious sites enveloped by lush trees and the soothing sounds of nature. Full hookups and awe-inspiring views were just the beginning of our delightful experience. Though we were only there for a night, we quickly realized we could have easily extended our stay. The campground boasts rustic cabins, bathhouses, and even disc golf. Keep in mind that it's open from mid-May to mid-October, so be sure to plan your visit during those months to fully appreciate this gem in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Freshwater Tavern: A Dinner Disappointment

For our evening dining experience, we decided to give the Freshwater Tavern a try. Situated just north of our campground and overlooking Lake Michigan, this restaurant had garnered rave reviews. The menu was tantalizing, featuring craft cocktails made with local bourbons and a selection of draft beers brewed in the Upper Peninsula. The craft food menu sounded equally enticing. Unfortunately, our visit didn't live up to the hype. While the views were lovely, and the company was excellent, the food fell short of our expectations and wasn't worth the price tag. Perhaps we'll return for a craft cocktail and the view, but we'll pass on dinner next time.

Island Casino: Where Gaming Meets Entertainment

No road trip is complete without a little entertainment, and for us, the Island Casino in Harris, Michigan, was the perfect stop. A mere 20-minute drive away, this casino offers everything a gaming enthusiast could desire, including golf and a range of summer activities. But the fun doesn't stop there; the Island Casino features non-stop entertainment, multiple restaurants, a spa, and even an indoor water park called Splash Island, perfect for families. During our visit, we joined the Island Club, their version of a players club. While there weren't any extraordinary promotions, we did enjoy a 5% discount on various amenities like casino dining. It's a must-visit for those seeking a mini getaway, and we can assure you that our evening at the slots was nothing short of enjoyable.

Our stop in Gladstone, Michigan, was an adventure filled with unexpected twists and serene moments. From the mudflap mishap to the idyllic Pioneer Trail Campground and the entertaining Island Casino, Gladstone offered a blend of experiences. Just remember to choose your dinner spot wisely, and you're sure to have a memorable time in this charming town.

Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!

Happy RVing!
