We just had an overnight visit to Wichita, Kansas, a city known for its rich aviation history and vibrant attractions, which was en route to our final destination. While our time was limited, we made a quick trip over to Kansas Star Casino, where we had dinner, I tried my luck at the gaming tables, and Kevin played the slots.

Despite a minor hiccup with the GPS, we managed to find our way to Air Capital RV Park which was a very nice park where we planned to stay for the night.

One of the standout features of the park is the spaciousness of its sites. With ample room and full hook-ups available, we settled in quickly with no issues. The convenience of concrete pads and roadways throughout the park made navigation a breeze.

The park has Wi-Fi and cable services, ensuring that you can stay connected and entertained during your stay. They even had a storm shelter on the property in case of bad weather.

The Kansas Star Casino was a short 15-minute drive from our campsite. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was all the construction - it appeared they were adding even more updated slot machines. A path took us around the construction to the side of the casino that was open. It was quite surprising how big the casino floor and well maintained.

As a member of the Boyd Gaming Family, their Player's Club benefits extended to all their properties. Kevin and I had previously visited one of their establishments in Shreveport a few years back, so we simply requested reprints of our cards. Unfortunately, neither of us received any rewards or complimentary play during our visit.

The casino offered a wide range of gaming tables, including classics like Texas Hold'em and Blackjack, as well as an intriguing addition – the Blackjack/3-card Poker Extra Bet tables. It was my first encounter with the 3-card Poker side bet, and while I didn't personally win anything from it, I observed others at the table experiencing some exciting wins. As my initial stint at the tables wasn't particularly successful, I quickly found myself transitioning to the slot machines.

While I explored the various slot machines, Kevin focused his attention on them exclusively. The casino boasted a diverse selection of both new and older, traditional slots. The payout rates were reasonable, but we didn't encounter any particularly significant wins. Nevertheless, our slot gaming experience was fun.

We did take a break from gaming to try out one of the casino's dining outlets. Although the steakhouse was unfortunately closed during our visit, we opted to try the Tin Lizard Bar & Grill for dinner. Despite the good ambiance of the bar, we encountered some unexpected twists during our dining experience.

Upon being seated promptly, we noticed that the waitstaff was understaffed, resulting in delays in taking orders and serving food. Despite the inconvenience, the menu offered an appealing range of options, catering to both health-conscious individuals and those seeking classic bar fare.

Kevin decided to try the 'JBOJ Burger,' a mouthwatering creation featuring double steak patties, cheddar cheese, jalapeño bacon, onion jam, and truffle arugula on a brioche bun. I opted for the grilled salmon, accompanied by a side salad. However, when our meals arrived, a mix-up occurred, and Kevin ended up receiving the wrong order. While I suffered through my VERY dry grilled salmon, poor Kevin had to patiently wait for his correct dish. The consolation was that he thought it was quite tasty once it arrived - even though the plating left quite a bit to be desired!

The waitress, recognizing the mishap, made an effort to rectify the situation by offering us a 20% discount on our bill. We appreciated her gesture, as it demonstrated the casino's commitment to customer satisfaction.

Other notes on the casino itself:

  • Restrooms are nice and clean

  • Nice bar on the casino floor if you wanted a place to hang out if gambling is not your thing

  • Arena hosts some reasonable entertainment but didn’t see any notables on the calendar

While our luck fluctuated at the gaming tables and the slot machines, we appreciated the wide selection of games available. The dining experience had its hiccups, with a mix-up in our orders, but the staff's efforts to rectify the situation reflected their commitment to customer satisfaction.

For those seeking an exciting casino experience, the Kansas Star Casino has much to offer. It's worth noting that, like most casinos, the experience would probably have been more lively over a weekend.
