If you're a fellow RV enthusiast like us, you know that sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination. During our recent road trip, we had the pleasure of staying at our second Harvest Hosts site ever, the Tallahassee Auto Museum, and it was awesome!
RV Paradise at Tallahassee Auto Museum
Our arrival at Tallahassee Auto Museum was met with excitement and a hint of curiosity. The RV parking area resembled a vast, open field, where you could simply pick a spot and make it your own. One minor caveat – you need to arrive before 5:00 EST because once you're inside the facility, there's no vehicle access in or out after that time. Also, leaving a tow vehicle outside of the gate is a no-go. At first, I worried that this might be an inconvenience, but as it turned out, it was a non-issue for our 1-night stay.
On the night we visited, there were a whopping 17 Harvest Hosts RVs parked alongside us, creating a mini-rally atmosphere. Despite the significant number of travelers, there was ample space between all the rigs, ensuring privacy and comfort. Plus, the best part was the opportunity to connect with fellow RVers.
My sister was particularly thrilled because, in her nearly two years of traveling, we had encountered very few Coachman Nova RVs, let alone at the places we've stayed. We met a great couple, Lee and Daphne from New York, and had a wonderful conversation about their rig and swapped travel experiences. The RV community never ceases to amaze me with how open and welcoming they are!
A Culinary Adventure at Backwoods Crossing
After our journey to the Tallahassee Auto Museum, we decided to treat ourselves to some delicious local cuisine. Just across the street, we discovered Backwoods Crossing, a farm-to-table restaurant that also allows you to explore their gardens and witness where they source their produce. The dining experience here was nothing short of outstanding.
From the appetizers to the salad, entrées, and even dessert, every bite was a
revelation. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations, and it was a delightful surprise just across the street from the museum (remember, they locked us in so we had to select something within walking distance). The only hiccup was that the salads arrived with the main course instead of before, but that was a minor blip in an otherwise fantastic meal.
Exploring the Tallahassee Auto Museum
As part of our Harvest Hosts experience, we couldn't pass up the chance to explore the Tallahassee Auto Museum. This museum is a treasure trove of eclectic collections, including an impressive array of cars and other collectibles such as Madam Alexander dolls, knives, golf clubs, and motorcycles.
Several highlights stood out during our visit, such as the carriage hearse that once carried President Lincoln and a Tucker stunt car used in the movie "Tucker." For any automobile enthusiast, the collection of various Batmobiles, spanning from the original series to the movie adaptations, was cool.
If you ever find yourself in the Tallahassee area, we highly recommend checking out the Tallahassee Auto Museum. And if you're lucky enough to be an RV traveler like us, staying here through Harvest Hosts is a unique and memorable experience that we wholeheartedly encourage. Whether you're a history buff, a car enthusiast, or just looking for a delightful stop on your journey, this place has something for everyone.
Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!
Happy RVing!
